Eighty girls from national boarding schools can benefit from scholarships of US$1,000 to study at vocational schools. The project is implemented by the Educational Advising Center and a foundation created by a mobile phone carrier, Info-Prim Neo reports. The aim of the project is to facilitate access to education. “The girls from vulnerable families are more exposed to the risk of trafficking and violence. Our objective is to give them the possibility of asserting themselves. We hope these scholarships will help these girls have a safer future,” said Liudmila Klimko, a member of the foundation's board. Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the responsibility for developing private-public partnerships is increasing and there are offered more social guarantees to employed persons and persons at risk. Educational Advising Center director Angela Muset said the scholarships will be offered on a contest basis for the 2011-2012 academic year. They will cover the accommodation and food costs, the price of books and necessary tools. The contest is open to last-year students of boarding schools with an average grade for the last three years of minimum 7.50. Angela Muset said information, counseling and personal and professional orientation services will be provided within the project. “When this pilot-project is completed, we will decide whether to extend it for another two years,” she stated. About 600 girls attend the 53 broaching schools working in Moldova.
