Zubic tenders resignation

Deputy Minister of the Interior Valentin Zubic handed in his resignation to the Government. Minister of the Interior Victor Catan told a news conference on October 7 that the fate of the other two deputy ministers is be decided by the executive, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Catan, as Zubic has certain responsibilities as regards guaranteeing of public order during the CIS Summit that is to take place in Chisinau, he agreed to continue fulfilling his duties until the Government makes a decision on his resignation. In 2001, when the Communists came to power, Valentin Zubic was deputy police commissioner of Chisinau's Botanica district. Shortly afterward, he was promoted to commissioner of Centru district and then to deputy commissioner of Chisinau municipality and chief of the municipal police. Since February 2006, he has been Deputy Minister of the Interior. In February this year, he was promoted to Police Major General. Zubic is known as a prudent person. However, he was involved in a number of scandals. A day earlier, the Minister of the Interior made public the decision to dismiss the chief of the municipal police Iacob Gumenita.
