The Zoological Garden of Chisinau reopens to visitors as of 1pm on June 1. While being closed to the visitors, the Zoo was repaired and new cages were built as more animals were born there.

Contacted by IPN for details, chief-manager of the institution Olga Iuzvac said the Zoological Garden underwent changes. The playgrounds, ponds and cages were revamped. There were placed decorations. The new cage for bears will be officially opened today at 1pm. The wolves were moved to a new cage. The new cage for meerkats will soon be ready.

The crocodile was moved to the summer cage that is outfitted with infrared lamps and a reservoir with fish where this can hunt. The crocodile until now had been held in a small, closed area. A terrarium at the Zoo was set up last year and there was erected a separate construction for snakes and lizards.

A number of animals were born in spring, such as kangaroos, bighorns and donkeys. There were also born new ostriches and other baby birds. Olga Iuzvac said it will be now more interesting for the visitors, but the animals are also eager to have company.

As it was closed to visitors, the Zoological Garden sustained losses, especially because May is usually the most popular month, when most of the trips are organized and school children come often. However, the sum is not so high and the institution’s administrant hopes to recover swiftly after reopening. Money from the municipal budget is allocated for maintaining the Zoological Garden.

The Zoo will work as usual, between 8am until 8pm, from Tuesday through Sunday.

Tickets for students and pensioners cost 5 lei as earlier, while for children under seven entrance is free of charge. Grownups will pay 30 lei.
