The dialogue between the PSRM and PAS failed because there was no interest in having negotiations. The negotiations can solve a part of the problems, but not all of them. In the presidential election campaign, communicational distortions were witnessed and particular limits were crossed. There were also attacks on persons and these hampered the subsequent communication, Zinaida Gribincea, expert in psychology, journalism and communication, stated in IPN’s public debate “PSRM and PAS, two parliamentary groups on which overcoming of political crisis depends. Why is communication between them blocked?”.

According to Zinaida Gribincea, the dialogue failed also because the two parties adopted different approaches to the profoundness and transparency of negotiations. Maia Sandu does not want to ignore particular aspects, such as the fight against corruption, preferring that this aspect should be with a result for society.

The expert noted the negotiations failed also because they bank on emotions, on the polarization of society. “The dialogue should normally take place between groups and also between Igor Dodon and Maia Sandu. If each parliamentary group now agreed to assume responsibility for the method of overcoming the crisis, things would change. But something like this is not wanted as some of the politicians fear particular things will change in the domestic and foreign policy. There are also particular prospects that haven’t yet taken shape,” stated Zinaida Gribincea.

She also said that some of the politicians need a higher communicator culture to reach constructive actions. Also, society needs greater political culture and civic activism, especially when it goes to big unsolved problems. A clear position is needed when it goes to the county’s future.

According to the expert, the snap parliamentary elections are an option for overcoming the political crisis, but the people during the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis look at such elections differently.

The public debate “PSRM and PAS, two parliamentary groups on which overcoming of political crisis depends. Why is communication between them blocked?” is the 173th installment of IPN’s project “Developing Political Culture through Public Debates” that is implemented with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
