Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi, who is also the president of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, said the respect for the state symbols is absent in Moldovan society. She noted that the President of the country is one of these symbols, IPN reports.

“We must educate society to respect the state symbols. No matter what attitude I have to Maia Sandu, I will respect her as she is the President and I will always respect the country’s President. Regrettably, the parties of the right do not have such respect. This attitude to the politicians started to develop in 2009,” Zinaida Grechanyi stated in the talk show “Key Issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

The official also said that a significant negative contribution to the development of such an attitude to some of the state institutions in society is also made by the MPs. But those who sow the seeds of discord will reap only discord.

Zinaida Grechanyi noted that populist slogans that lead to nowhere are disseminated in society.

“During election campaigns, the politicians promise a lot of things – to destroy what was created and to build something new. We experienced something like this at the start of the independence period and then in 2009. What did the politicians create after 2009? It is very easy to destroy, but how to build everything from zero then?” asked the Socialist MP.

As to the tense situation in Moldova politics, the Speaker said she is definitely in favor of snap parliamentary elections.
