Zimbru ousted from Moldova Cup

Top-echelon Zimbru were surprisingly eliminated from the Moldova Cup after losing to second-division FC Cahul-2005 on shootouts 9-8 (0-0) in the last-16 round on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Another rather surprising result was seen in Tiraspol where the namesake club defeated, also on shootouts (5-4), the favorites Milsami Orhei. Elsewhere, the favorites lived up to expectations: Academia UTM Chisinau defeated Izvoras Drasliceni 0-4; Rapid Ghidighici won 3-0 against Lilicora Chisinau; Dacia Chisinau defeated Nistru Otaci 4-1; and Olimpia Balti qualified to the quarters after winning 1-0 against St. Gheorghe Suruceni . The last two games of the last-16 round will be played on Thursday: Sheriff Tiraspol will meet FC Costuleni, and Ursidos Chisinau will play Iskra-Stal Rybnitsa.
