Zalina Marghiev wins gold

Zalina Marghiev reaffirmed her status as Moldova’s best sportswoman. The athlete won the gold medal at the European Winter Cup in hammer throw, which ended on Sunday, March 18, in Bar, Montenegro, Info-Prim Neo reports. Zalina won the contests by throwing the hammer at 73.6 meters, also setting a new national record. The 24 year old achieved the winning result in her last attempt, besting world champion Tatiana Lysenko from Russia. This is Marghiev’s second victory in this competition after the success of 2010 in Arles, France. Zalina’s elder sister finished 5th with a result of 68.93 meters. Their younger brother did reasonably well in the junior competition, occupying the 6th place. Sisters Zalina and Marina Marghiev will represent Moldova at the Olympics in London next summer.
