Zalina Marghiev qualified on Wednesday for the hammer throw final at the Olympic Games in London, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan athlete's effort in preliminary Group B was measured at 72.19 meters, which secured her a place in the final, scheduled for Friday, August 10. Zalina’s elder sister was supposed to participate as well in the competition, but tested positive at an anti-doping control ahead of the Olympics. One of Moldova’s other representatives, Elena Popescu, finished 21st in the 800 meters qualification. Her result of 2 minutes 06.04 seconds was enough to reach the semifinals. In the next days, Iaroslav Musinschi and Roman Prodius will represent Moldova’s colors in the marathon contest. Moldova obtained two bronze medals so far thanks to Cristina Iovu and Anatol Caracu, both at weightlifting. The medal table is topped by China with 34 gold, 21 silver and 18 bronze. Moldova shares the 62nd place with four other countries that won only two bronze medals.
