Dozens of youths 'with civic attitude' blasted 365 red balloons in a sign of protest against the empty promises made by the authorities in the Youth Year. The action occurred Friday in front of the Palace of the Republic. It was attended by both politically unaffiliated youths and young people from Moldova Noastra Alliance, the National Liberal Party, the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The activities carried out by the authorities in the Youth Year have had no impact over the young generation. They had but a festive character. Nothing consistent has been undertaken to change for better the life of those one million young people from Moldova, most of which live without their parents, who left for abroad to work,” said the organizer of the action, Tudor Darie. “Moldova will face grave problems, unless the authorities contribute to the education of the young generation to fill in this gap,” Tudor Darie said. According to the president of the Lib Dem youth organization, George Mocanu, declaring 2008 as the Youth Year was a cheap trick of the present governance, which tried to manipulate the youth in an run-up year. The Youth Year was decreed by President Vladimir Voronin on December 26, 2007, and on December 26, 2008, a closing ceremony was held.
