The youth policies are far from the real needs of the young people, consider young politicians from Moldova, leaders of youth organizations of political parties, who say they try to identify the real problems of the young people and to suggest solutions to decision makers. The issue was discussed in a conference staged by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Chisinau, IPN reports.
According to the head of the youth organization of the Party “Action and Solidarity” - PAS Youth Dan Perciun, during a year and a half since the organization was founded, they have held different thematic workshops centering on youth problems and campaigns, including in cooperation with the youth organizations of other parties. For example, the young people collected signatures in favor of allowing students to enter dorms after midnight. As a result, the Government decision that imposed this restriction was modified. Another campaign was aimed at ensuring the flexibility of the school curriculum so that only six of the 13 mandatory subjects were studied in schools. As a result, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research decided to switch over to such a model starting with 2018.
Dinu Plingau, chairman of the youth organization of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, stated that the young people in Moldova are the most discriminated social section because the status of victim is cultivated in them. There is a distance between the young people and institutions. The youth are not involved in the decision-making process.
Cristian Titanu, deputy head of the Liberal Democratic Youth of Moldova, said the members of their organization are characterized by the change through evolution, not through revolution. The lack of jobs is the biggest problem faced by the young people in Moldova. This makes them emigrate. It happens also because the youth policies are designed by persons who are not connected to the problems of the young people.
Andrianos Giannou, head of the youth organization of the European People’s Party of Moldova (YEPP), noted that the young people have power when they decide to go and vote. They can also come up with new ideas and will gain more power if the solutions they suggest to the problems of the youth are more creative.
Participants in the debate said that to persuade the young people in Moldova to take part in elections, the electoral offer should be relevant and should contain a message that matches the problems of the youth. The given message should be also effectively communicated. The young politicians should be more visible in districts and should diversify the methods of conveying the message in election or other types of campaigns.
