Youth National Prizes for science and technologies were awarded

Three out of five Youth National Prizes for science and technologies from 2006 have been awarded to graduates of the Moldova State University. The awarding ceremony took place in the evening of Friday, November 10, in the National Palace hall, attended by the representatives of the National youth forum. The contest was attended by 21 authors and workgroups. The national prize was awarded as follows: in the medical field - Vasile Mustata, PhD in oncology; in biology – the team of Aliona Glijin, PhD in biological sciences, USM superior lector; in informatics - Artiom Alhazov, USM lector. In the field of physics there were two prizes awarded – one to Igor Eftodiev, PhD in physic-mathematic sciences of USM, and to the team of Veaceslav Popa, Technical University of Moldova. „I feel I am useful to my nation. It is nice to know our efforts are appreciated”, declared Igor Eftodiev, one of the laureate. Congratulation messages for the winners were voiced by the vice-prime-minister Valerian Cristea, minister of Education and Youth, Victor Tvircun, and by the members of the awarding committee. A member of the committee, Ion Tighineanu, vice-president of the Academy of Science, declared that “the activities of the youth contribute not only to the development of science, but also help promote a better international image for Republic of Moldova”. He also declared that the nominees of the national youth award will achieve other great results, “perhaps even a Nobel prize”. The National Youth Prize has been awarded since 1991. In even years the prize is awarded for special results in the field of science and technologies, and in odd years – in the field of literature and arts. The contest can be attended by youngsters from 18 to 35 years. The prize is offered for individual contestants and teams of up to 5 persons.
