The Ministry of Youth and Sport has launched the eighth edition of the contest “Youth Capital 2018”. Any settlement in the country, except for the municipality of Chisinau and the winners of the contest during the last three years, can submit applications by July 10, 2017, IPN reports.
Minister of Youth Victor Zubcu told a news conference that by this project they aim to support the local authorities and to make the communities more visible and attractive.
Deputy Minister Pavel Ianet said those who want to take part in the contest should present a plan of action that they intend to implement in the Youth Capital. The measures should be aimed at developing youth services, economic opportunities for the youth and at strengthening the youth sector.
Any settlement can take part in the contest, except for the municipality of Chisinau and the contest winners of the last three years – Varnita, Ialoveni and Sangerei. It is important for the settlements to have appropriate infrastructure, while the local authorities have to make a contribution.
Ion Donea, division head at the Ministry, called on the local authorities to stage cultural and sport activities and involve in these as many young people as possible, including persons with special needs and from socially deprived families.
Applications can be submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sport until July 10, 2017. The results will be announced on August 12, when it is celebrated the International Youth Day.
The contest “National Youth Capital” is an initiative borrowed from the European Youth Forum and envisions the selection of a town or village that during a year hosts the youth activities of the authorities, NGOs and international organizations. Varnita village of Anenii Noi district is the “Youth Capital 2017”.
