The youngest mayor elected in the runoff vote on November 19 is 23 years old. He won the mayoral election in Albina village of Cimișlia district. The oldest elected mayor is 71 and he will manage Bursuceni commune of Sângerei district, IPN reports.
CEC chairwoman Angelica Caraman told a news conference that over 100 of the mayors elected last Sunday are aged between 41 and 55, 85 are aged between 56 and 71, while over 70 are aged between 23 and 40.
Out of the 273 elected mayors, 208 are men (76%).
Angelica Caraman noted that about 314,000 persons voted in the second round of elections and in the elections that were rerun in eight localities. Some 55% of these were women. The voters aged between 56 and 65 were the most active ones, ensuring a turnout of 24%.
Within 48 hours of the closing of the polls, the district electoral councils are to present the voting reports for the first- and second-level constituencies to the CEC. Later, the Commission will approve the minutes on the outcome of the general local elections. In accordance with the Electoral Code, applications to recount the votes can be submitted within three days of the announcing of the results.
