A 28-year-old Hancesti woman was sentenced to 5 years in jail for trafficking her former classmate, Info Prim Neo reports. According to a press release of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the woman promised her friend she would find her a housekeeper job in the United Arab Emirates, taking care of her documents and buying her a plane ticket. In Dubai, the victim was met by an unknown person who took away her passport. She was told she had to pay $7,500 for “travel expenses”. Afterwards, she was sexually exploited for 3 months until she managed to contact the Dubai police, who repatriated her. In another case, the Hancesti District Court sentenced a man to 9 years in prison for beating his domestic partner and disfiguring her face. The 46-year-old was drunk and had an argument with his partner. He grabbed a knife and slashed her face. The woman ran to a neighbor and called the police. The man was jailed for intentional bodily damage under article 151 of the Penal Code.
