The young wing of the People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova (PPRM) mounted a protest in front of the Chisinau City Hall. The young people accused mayor Dorin Chirtoaca of acts of corruption and favoritism during his eight-year tenure and demanded that he should be convicted, IPN reports.
“We came to protest against the illegalities and acts of corruption committed by Dorin Chirtoaca,” said the first deputy chairman of the Youth Organization of the PPRM Maxim Braila.
“Dorin Chirtoaca, by acts of corruption, allotted a plot located near the National Clinical Hospital to a company that belongs to the head of the Liberal Party’s local office in Rascani district for building apartments for doctors on it. In reality, only 15% of the built apartments were distributed to doctors. The others were sold and Dorin Chirtoaca and the Liberal councilors of Chisinau enriched themselves from these sales,” he stated.
Maxim Braila also said that three apartment buildings were erected on another plot situated near the National Clinical Hospital at a time when a parking lot with a capacity of 700 places was to be built there. The hospital’s parking lot will thus become the parking place of the dwellers of the blocks that are being constructed.
The protesters also accused Dorin Chirtoaca of issuing authorizations for setting up new kiosks. They said the City Hall took out a loan repayable in ten years for assembling trolleybuses in Chisinau. The young people will have to help repay this money.
The protesters bought a pair of handcuffs to Chirtoaca, saying his place is in jail.
The electoral staff of the Liberal Party didn’t comment on the protest and on the accusations made against the party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau.
