The young people aged between 14 and 35 are invited to take part in a poll whose results will reveal the needs of the youth in Moldova and the challenges these face. The survey launched by the national network of local youth councils will be conducted during March 15-28 and will cover 14 districts and the municipality of Chisinau.

In a news conference at IPN, Petru Grecu, chairman of the Municipal Youth Council of Chisinau, said the poll results will be presented in a forum where there will be proposed and discussed solutions. Later, plans of action will be drafted and submitted to the local public authorities for having these included in the budget.

According to Nadejda Gogu, student of the Faculty of Sociology of the State University of Moldova, the poll consists of eight chapters with questions about the perceptions and orientations of the young people, recreation and spending of the free time, education and formation, state of health, employment, deviant behavior, future intentions and social-demographic data. At the local level, the data will be collected by young volunteers who will be trained by sociology students.

Radu Rebeja, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said the Ministry devotes special attention to the area and the project launched today will help the authorities identify the problems of the youth and better policies for the young people will be thus designed.

Constantin Turcanu, senior consultant at the Youth Division of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said such an exercise that involves different players at the local and national levels is very useful. This way the young people will underscore their needs and will build partnerships with the authorities for developing their communities.

Two reports will be compiled later - one for the municipality of Chisinau and another one centering on the tendencies in districts.
