The problems faced by the young people in Moldova were discussed in Chisinau within a platform formed by a number of youth organizations and representatives of civil society, local and central authorities.

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva said the young people represent an important part of the country’s population, about one third, and they are those who determine Moldova’s transformation into a modern and prosperous state. “The young people need investments and increased support from the central and local authorities, civil society and the private sector so as to develop their skills and to effetely take part and contribute to the country’s development so that no one is excluded,” stated the official.

Secretary of state at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Radu Rebeja said the role played by the young people in the country’s development is very important, these making a remarkable and indispensable contribution to determining changes in society. That’s why the youth policies are a priority for the state. Among the main governmental youth policies and programs are the “First House”, “Start for the Young People: a Sustainable Business at Home”, the Youth Center Development Program, the Program of Grants for Youth Organizations, the National Program of Assistance in Strengthening and Developing District/Municipal Youth Councils and others.
