Dozens of young members of the Movement “Democratia Acasa” (“Democracy at Home”) protested Thursday in front of the Palace of the Republic, where the lawmakers hold their sittings, and demanded that the MPs work efficiently or resign. A sitting was to take place on June 2, but it was postponed for unknown reasons. The young persons said they are dissatisfied with the way the country is administered and do not rule out the possibility of new large-scale protests like those of April 7, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“During two years, we did not see bills and if draft laws were passed they promoted group interests,” said the Movement’s chairman Vasile Costiuc. He also said that the MPs have the moral obligation to work nonstop so as to bring Moldova closer to the EU.
“In Moldova, they do not criticize the government during the first 100 days and another 100 days to allow them to accommodate, but during the next two years they have not been criticized because we were threatened that the Communists may return to power,” said Vasile Costiuc.
The young people demanded that the lawmakers mobilize and prove that they can manage efficiently, bring about changes and improve the living standards.
The protest started in front of the Place of the Republic and continued at the head offices of the Liberal Party and the Liberal Democratic Party, but the young people did not achieve results as there was nobody there. They left a note and went away.
“The decision not to call a sitting is taken by the legalities body and only they (the lawmakers) can explain. I’m sure there are objective reasons why today’s sitting was put off,” Prime Minister Vlad Filat told the journalists later. He said the protest staged by “Democratia Acasa” looked like an electoral event to him.
