Young people caught picking up packages with pills for making drugs

A 24-year-old man and a 17-year-old minor were detained when they came to pick up parcels that contained more than 23 kilograms of drug-making pills. The packages were delivered via unaccompanied parcel post. The young man turned out to be the sender, IPN reports.

The Customs Service said that over 23 kilograms of pills were detected during checks carried out by Costești customs officers with the help of a sniffer dog. These were hidden in an unaccompanied parcel.

The two suspects were apprehended when they showed up to pick up the unaccompanied packages. The 24-year-old man sent the pills from Cairo and the minor was his accomplice. Both are citizens of Ukraine. The first was detained for 72 hours, while the teenager was placed in a foster home.

According to technical and scientific examinations, the over 23 kilograms of pills contain ephedrine, which is used to manufacture amphetamine. The value of the drugs that could have been manufactured from those pills was estimated at over 20 million lei.
