A man from Chisinau got 12 years in jail for murdering his girlfriend after the case had been examined as suicide for a period, IPN reports, with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office
It happened in an apartment in Ciocana district of Chisinau in November 2018. The man and his girlfriend came to visit their friends. After drinking alcoholic beverages, the couple started to quarrel and the man stabbed his girlfriend with a kitchen knife for several times. The 19-year-old girl died on the spot. As the hosts were in another room, the man told them that the girl killed herself when he told her that he no longer loved her.
In several months, the case was taken over by another prosecutor who ordered a series of examinations and the conclusions showed the stabs could have been caused by another person. The man was remanded in custody. He phoned his friends whom they visited that evening and tried to persuade them to testify that the young woman killed herself.
The man’s guilt was proven. He was also charged with obstruction of justice. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
