A 24-year-old driver from Anenii Noi district is suspected of striking fatally a man aged 31 by his car while travelling through Bulboaca last night. He left the place of the accident, but was arrested the next day, IPN reports.
According to the police, the pedestrian was walking by the roadside. He died immediately after he was hit. The hit-and-run driver was caught and arrested for 72 hours. He faces a maximum jail term of seven years for causing a death by his car and is also investigated for driving away after the accident.
The General Police Inspectorate said that three hit-and-run accidents that resulted in death have been reported in Moldova in the recent past. The drivers were apprehended.
Under the Road Traffic Regulations, a driver involved in a road accident is obliged to give first aid and to call an ambulance if there are hurt persons. This should also inform the police about the accident and should not leave the place until the police arrive.
