A 32-year-old man from Edinet municipality was sentenced to five years in prison after leaving a bedridden person without a monthly pension. The money was stolen from a man who just picked up the recipient’s pension from the post office and was going to take it home, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, it happened in January this year. In broad daylight, the defendant followed a man who went out of the post office located at the entrance to the central market in Edinet. There, the victim received the monthly pension of a bedridden person. The young man followed him to the apartment building, where he snatched from his hand the bag containing over 4,000 lei, the victim’s ID and some bills and ran away. As he was running, he threw the ID and the bills down, keeping the money.

The Central Court of Edinet City sentenced the defendant to five years in a semi-closed prison. The sentence is not final and can be appealed to the Balti Court of Appeals.
