A man aged 27 had drowned in the Nistru River last night. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, witnesses said the young man, who had a picnic together with friends, went to wash his hands, but slipped on the bank and fell into the water.
The tragedy happened near Tarasova village of Soldanesti district. Two teams of rescuers from Rezina and Soldanesti looked for the body until afternoon. The search was difficult owing to currents and stones as well as to poor visibility. Frogmen from Balti also lent a hand. After another four hours of searches, the body was found about 20 meters from the bank.
The rescuers warn that swimming is allowed only in specially laid out places. Swimming under the influence or alcohol is banned. As many as 37 persons have drowned so far this summer. Seven of the victims were children.
