A 33-year-old man died after he fell into the Cave of Surprises in Criuleni district on Thursday. The operation to take the body out lasted for over 12 hours, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that four teams of rescuers were on the scene immediately. The young man had been in the cave for a period and hadn’t answered his phone calls. The body was found at a depth of about 60 meters. The operation lasted because the cave passages are very narrow.
The circumstances and cause of the incident are yet to be found out.
A year ago, a man aged 21 suffered a leg fracture in the same cave when he slipped down and got stuck in a passageway.
