A man aged 26 from Briceni district was sentenced to one year in jail, but put on probation for a year, for infecting his girlfriend with HIV. The prosecutors proved that though the man knew he was HIV-positive, he had unprotected sex with the woman, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, after living with the man for over half a year, the woman went to see a doctor and found out that she was infected. She thus went to the police.
Under the Criminal Code of Moldova, the infection with HIV by an infected person is punished with one to five years in prison.
