A man aged 22 from Cahul district was arrested on suspicion that he had put forged $50 notes into circulation through ATMs in Moldova during five months, together with other persons. Banknotes totaling 470,000 lei that were allegedly withdrawn from his bank account were found on the man, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.
Also, $50 notes with signs of forgery similar to those that were put earlier into circulation, a 4-mm caliber “Flobert” pistol and 28 bullets without documents of origin and gun permit, a number of mobile phones and SIM cards were found in his car.
The man was remanded in custody. He was earlier convicted of different types of offenses and served time in jail. Now he faces 7 to 15 years in jail. Any person is considered innocent until a final and irrevocable court judgment is passed.
