Moldova’s First President Mircea Snegur Tuesday met students of Chisinau high schools and discussed Moldova’s proclamation of independence and the results achieved during 20 years with them. “You are those who will change Moldova’s future,” Mircea Snegur told them, saying the young generation has new views and new values and will bring about beneficial chances in the country, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mircea Snegur met the students within the cultural-educative series of events “Dialogue of Generations” that is held at the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”. He told the students about the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact whereby Bessarabia was annexed to the Soviet Union on June 28, 1940, how the Communist dictatorship dominated Moldova and about the most important day for the country – the Independence Day.
“After 20 years, Moldova became an independent and democratic state with free people. The Moldovans now should only love their country and work here, at home. The administration is obliged to create conditions for the people working abroad to return home,” said Mircea Snegur.
The high schools students put a lot of questions to the first head of state. They asked him why the Transnistrian conflict has not been solved during 20 years, why there is ambiguity as regards the Romanian and Moldovan languages, why Moldova did not unite with Romania in 1991 and other facts.
Claudia Balaban, director general of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”, said exhibitions and discussions between personalities and children are staged at the library on the Independence Day.
Mircea Snegur was the President of Moldova in 1991-1996.
