Yesterday's torrential rain damaged crops and electric power lines

The August 17 driving rain accompanied by hail and strong wind left many settlements without electric power, Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo. Fifty-four settlements in the districts of Hancesti, Calarasi, Orhei and Ungheni experienced power outages. The crops in Molesti and Vasieni villages, Ialoveni, have been seriously affected. The hail in Leova town damaged two luxury cars – a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and a Shevrolet-Epica, 90 slates and electric cables. Many hectares of sunflower, corn, orchards and vineyards have been affected in Filipeni and Sarata-Noua villages, Leova. The roof of the building of the former factory “Steaua Rosie” in Chisinau caught fire during the storm. There were destroyed six square meters of roof and about 30 square meters of ceiling. Allegedly, the fire was was caused by lightning.
