Yesterday’s heavy rain leaves muddied yards and flooding ponds

Rescuers and firefighters in Ungheni took emergency measures this morning after the pond in Alexeevca village flooded expansively into the pond Ceachir following the recent heavy rainfall. Dozens of rescuers are reinforcing the levee to prevent the water from flooding homes.

Contacted by IPN for details, the mayor of Alexeevca Vitalie Bujor said the emergency services and locals were mobilized at 4am in the morning to redirect the water heading for houses. A number of local roads, gardens, basements and cellars were already flooded. There is a lot of water and they need assistance from the state.

In Ialoveni, 15 basements and five cellars were inundated. Asked by IPN to describe the situation, mayor of Ialoveni town Sergiu Armașu said a number of services and local business entities were involved to alleviate the consequences of the heavy rain. At least 15 families sought help. The water flooded the basement of a local kindergarten. “As more rain is expected, the families in situations of risk were provided with sand and gravel,” stated the mayor.

In Șoldănești, rescuers pumped water out of three yards. In Roșu village of Cahul district, the rescuers worked to take the water out of two basements. Similar measures were taken in the districts of Sângerei, Căușeni and Ungheni and also in Chisinau and Codru town.
