Writer Spiridon Vangheli passed away at the age of 92. Prose writer, translator and editor, he was an ambassador of literature and culture, promoting the authentic values and beauty of the Romanian language. His writings educated generations of children, the Chisinau City Hall said in a condolence message that is quoted by IPN.
In his activity of over half a century, the master produced beloved volumes, including "The Little Boy in the Blue Hut", "Guguță's Exploits", "Columbus in Australia", "Guguță - Captain of Ship", "The Star of Ciuboțel", "Guguță and His Friends", "Children in Siberian Handcuffs", "Crăița" etc.
Spiridon Vangheli translated from universal poetry and prose for children. He was co-author, together with Grigore Vieru, of the primer “Abecedar”.
“Vangheli’s works were translated into over 40 languages and appeared in 68 countries. The writer was awarded several national and international awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Diploma of Honor, the State Prize, the Romanian Writers’ Prize. He also held the title of People’s Writer and Knight of the Order of the Republic,” the municipality said.
Spiridon Vangheli was born on June 14, 1932, in the village of Grinăuți, Balti County.
