Wrestler Vitaly Eremenko becomes European champion in U23 category

Greco-Roman style wrestler Vitaly Eremenko became European champion in the Under-23 age category. At the European U23 Wrestling Championships held in Albania’s Tirana, the Moldovan athlete won four victories in the up to 63kg weight class, IPN reports.

Vitaly Eremenko defeated Davit Jotyan of Armenia, Aleksandr Andreev of the Russian Federation, Romeo Beridze of Georgia, and Ziya Babashov of Azerbaijan.

Another Moldovan wrestler, Alexandrin Gutu, won a bronze medal in the up to 77kg class after beating Sweden's Karl Baff.

On Friday evening, Alexandru Solovei (82kg) in the final of his category will meet Gamzat Gadzhiev, who competes under a neutral flag. Vasile Zabica will have the chance to win bronze in the small final of the 72kg class.

So far, the national wrestling team has won five medals: two in freestyle wrestling, two in Greco-Roman wrestling and one in women's wrestling.
