Wrestler Mihai Sava fails to win medal

Moldovan wrestler Mihai Sava was close to wining a bronze at the European Wrestling Championships that are taking place in Georgia’s Tbilisi. In the fight for the third position in the 66 kg class, the athlete lost to Alexandr Kontoev of Belarus. Sava finished fifth in the end, IPN reports.

On March 19, one of the leaders of the national squad, Nicolae Ceban, who took part in the Olympic Games, was eliminated after the first fight in the 96 kg class. He was beaten by Armenia’s Edgar Vanokyan.

The following Moldovan freestyle wrestlers will enter the competition the coming days: Alexandru Chirtoaca (55 kg), Ion Drucenschi (60 kg), Alexandru Burca (74 kg), Piotr Ianulov (84 kg), Alexandru Romanov (120 kg), Mariana Esanu (55 kg), Ludmila Cristea (59 kg), and Svetlana Saenko (72 kg).

In Greco-Roman wrestling, Moldova will be represented by Victor Ciobanu (55 kg), Donior Islamov (60 kg), Ion Luchita (66 kg), and Andrian Mocanu (84 kg).
