The Moldovan freestyle wrestler Mariana Draguțan has won a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games, to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
Andrei Chiperi’s student scored four victories in the 53 kg category at a pre-Olympic tournament in Istanbul, against Austria’s Oleksandra Kogut, Kyrgyzstan’s Aruuke Kyzy, Uzbekistan’s Shokdida Akhmedova and Sztalvira Orsos. A three-time European champion, Sztalvira Orsos wrestled for Russia before joining Hungarian team in 2023.
To date, there are 12 Moldovan athletes qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris: the wrestlers Anastasia Nichita, Irina Rîngaci, Victor Ciobanu, Valentin Petic, and Mariana Draguțan; the canoeists Serghei Tarnovschi, Daniela Cociu, and Maria Olărașu; the archer Dan Olaru; the equestrian Alisa Glink; the shooter Anna Dulce; and the weightlifter Marin Robu.
