Wrestler Daniel Cataraga falls short of winning medal at World Championship

Graeco-Roman wrestler Daniel Cataraga finished 5th at the World Championships for seniors, held in Paris, IPN reports.

The 22 year old reached the semi-finals in the 71 kg category, after defeating Ismael Navarro Sanchez (Spain), Svilen Plamenov Kostadinov (Bulgaria) and Takeshi Izumi (Japan). In the semis, he was bested 2-4 by Germany’s Frank Staebler, who went on to win the tournament. Cataraga then also lost the fight for the bronze medal with the score 8-10, against Iran’s Mohammadali Abdolhamid Geraei.

Today, August 22, Moldova will be represented by Victor Ciobanu (59 kg) and Donior Islamov (66 kg).
