World Blood Donor Day mark in Chisinau
On the World Blood Donor Day, in Steven the Great Public Garden in Chisinau, a mobile blood collecting lab has was installed on Saturday. The event marks the last stage of the campaign raising the public awareness of donating blood, unfolded in Moldova from June 1 to 14, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According tot the chief of the Blood Transfusion National Center (BTNC), Svetlana Cebotari, the collection in the capital's center has been up to all the necessary standards for the process. At the same time, she said, such actions occurred in every district center of the country on Saturday.
The campaign gathered a double number of persons compared to May, when only 17% of donors did the feat voluntarily, Cebotari said.
Deputy premier Victor Stepaniuc has also donated blood, and stated those 200-400 grams of blood is not so much. “As organizers, we should set an example,” he said, mentioning he does so traditionally. Also the US ambassador to Moldova, Michael Kirby, has ventured into donating blood.
The BTNC chief has told Info-Prim Neo many officials donated blood during the campaign and on Saturday, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organizations.
The campaign has been financed by USAID and the Transfusion Security component of the Project on preventing HIV/AIDS and B and C Viral Hepatitis, implemented by the Health Ministry.
