The World Bank will implement in Moldova the Strategy for Strengthening Engagement on Governance and Anticorruption. The draft of the Strategy was discussed at the Government in the presence of WB representatives and central authorities. WB Country Director for Moldova Paul Bermingham underlined that the Bank is willing to provide additional assistance to the Government for efficiently carrying out the launched reforms, by improving governance and by intensifying anticorruption actions at all levels. As the official says, the Strategy is meant to essentially contribute to the consolidation and improvement of the governance quality, in the context of reform programme, including the public administration reform. Premier Vasile Tarlev said that the cooperation of the Government with the WB was always aimed at settling the most stringent problems envisaged in the economic and financial policies of Moldova, as well as those envisaged in the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper. According to Tarlev, the National Strategy for Prevention and Combating of Corruption and the Action Plan for carrying out the National Strategy for Prevention and Combating of Corruption for 2007-2009 have been approved in this field so far. There was also approved the Programme of Actions regarding the implementation of the preliminary Country Plan of Moldova under “Millennium Challenge” and instituted a mechanism to ensure the implementation of the preliminary Plan. The Prime Minister urged ministries and central authorities to present, in limited terms, proposals related to the Strategy draft.
