The World Bank will extend the financing for modernizing the education sector of Moldova. The issue was discussed during a working visit to the Ministry of Education by a WB mission on June 13-17, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry of Education says the financing will be extended for reviewing the school program and simplifying it, for the professional development of future teachers and for strengthening the capacities of the National School Inspectorate and the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment.
Speaking about the results of the visit to Moldova, the WB team’s leader Andrea C. Guedes, senior operations officer in the area of Global Education Practice, underlined the importance of the areas suggested for the cooperation with the Ministry of Education. “We will compile a detailed report on each proposal apart. We must set in concert the objectives on which we will concentrate our efforts for achieving the best results by involving international specialists and partners that will offer the necessary expertise,” stated Andrea C. Guedes.
For her part, Minister of Education Corina Fusu stressed the necessity of re-forming the initial and continuous teacher training system so as to increase the quality of teaching in education institutions. “The elaboration and inclusion of the psycho-pedagogical module in higher education establishments will enable to graduates who studied specialties related to teaching to work as teachers. This way not only good theoreticians, but also good practitioners could teach in the physics, chemistry, biology and other labs,” she stated.
The interlocutors examined the opportunity of developing the Education Information Management System so that this includes data not only about primary schools, secondary schools and lyceums, but also about kindergartens, vocational schools and universities and also discussed the possibility of learning from international practices for strengthening the capacities of the National School Inspectorate and the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment.
