The justice sector reform in Moldova and its role in developing the country were discussed in a meeting of Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari and representatives of the World Bank. The foreign officials inquired about the most recent changes in the sector and about the technical assistance offered to Moldova in the process of optimizing the judicial map, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry’s press service, lead public sector specialist in the Governance Global Practice of the World Bank Amitabha Mukherjee suggested bringing World Bank experts to Moldova to examine the courts of law and costs following the adoption of the relevant law and to discuss with justice professionals.

The specialist informed Vladimir Cebotari about the support provided by the World Bank to the justice sectors of other countries and about the Justice Peer-Assisted Learning (JUST-PAL) Network intended for justice professionals.

The minister proposed jointly working out modern instruments and approaches in the area of probation and penitentiary system development. The officials also underlined the necessity of laying emphasis on the individualization of the jail term serving process.

The sides expressed interest in the creation of preconditions for establishing public-private partnerships in the detention system with the aim of stepping up re-socialization measures and of preparing the detainees for employment when they are set free.
