World Bank and Moldovan researchers eager to cooperate

The World Bank and Moldovan research entities lay the foundations of long-lasting cooperation. The principles were discussed on June 10 at a reunion between scientists and the country manager of the WB for Moldova, Melanie Marlett, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Moldovan Academy of Sciences (ASM).
The ASM president, academician Gheorghe Duca, made reference to the good cooperation experience with other international organizations and funds supporting science.
Melanie Marlett informed on the goals the country team of the WB in Moldova pursues. She pointed out project “of major importance for Moldova”, financed by the WB and other donors. They envisage public finances management, water supply and drainage, quality education for villagers, rural investments and services, energy etc. Calling on the Moldovan scientists to take part in the WB projects, Melanie Marlett suggested to identify the possibilities for long-lasting cooperation.
The ASM deputy president, Ion Tighineanu, pointed out how Moldovan scientists get grants to strengthen the scientific potential For example, in projects financed by the US-based CRDF and managed by the Moldova-based MRDA, over 2,000 scientists participated, using a total amount of $6.5 million.
The Government has recently offered the European Commission to include Moldova in the Frame Program 7 , what is deemed as a step forward into the European research area.
