The works to restore Soroca Fotress will continue until 2015. Under the initial project, the museum was to be reopened by this May. Interviewed by IPN, director of the museum complex “Soroca Fortress” Nicolae Bulat said the works were postponed owing to the long winter during which the restorers were unable to work.

“There is no problem. The contract allows for a delay. The restoration works need fastidiousness and time is needed to remove the fungi that destroy the stone. Meanwhile, we received more funds. The Government allocated 4 million lei for repairing the streets around the fortress. Though there was budgeted 8 million lei for the street infrastructure, this money wasn’t enough to repair the portion around the fortress. It will be nice, as in the West,” stated the complex’s director.

Nicolae Bulat noted that the price of tickets will be raised at the end of summer. “We will increase the price of tickets, but insignificantly. The price is now 2 lei for children and 3 lei for grownups. It will rise to 3 lei and 5 lei respectively. Entrance for pensioners and invalids will be free,” he said.

Soroca Fortress is restored within the European project “Medieval Jewels” that also covers the fortresses Hotin and Suceava in Romania. Soroca Fortress was closed for restoration last August.
