The works to repair over 1,200 kilometers of road in more than 1,000 communities in Moldova will begin in May, Minister of Economy and Road Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici stated in the program “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.
“This means that we should be ready with everything by May. We should select the companies that will build roads, ensure the access to sand, gravel and other materials and make sure there is communication with the local public authorities and these will cooperate and will manage to deliver the expected results,” stated Chiril Gaburici, noting he would like this project to be extended the next few years.
The ministered said the communities where roads will be repaired as part of this project were selected by the number of inhabitants. There were examined the main roads in communities and identified those that are badly in need of repair.
Mayor of Carpineni village of Hancesti district Ion Carpineanu asked how long this project will last and if it will be accessible after 2019. “We would like very much to have access to funds for repairing local roads every time when need be, each year,” stated the mayor.
Director of the Association of Businessmen Alexandru Baldag said this project does not replace other projects financed with state budget funds. “I refer to national road building and reconstruction projects and projects financed by foreign donors. The local public authorities are entitled to a part of the budget and this will be used to reconstruct local roads. The project “Good Roads for Moldova” is complementary for all the villages and towns of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Alexandru Baltag. According to him, the successful implementation of this project will be a positive signal for the population and for the foreign partners.
The central public authorities intend to spend about 1.6 billion lei of the own funds and of donations made by such foreign partners as the EBRD, EIB and World Bank for repairing over 1,200 km of roads in more than 1,000 Moldovan communities.
