Works to reinforce the protection embankment are carried out at the municipal waste dump in Țânțăreni. This is the second stage of the project financed by the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with the National Ecological Fund. The first stage included the building of wells with concrete, placing of 50 stabilization poles and making of the temporary road on the embankment and of the platform on which vehicles turn back, IPN reports.
Currently, the existing metallic pipes are being dismantled and will be replaced with reinforced concrete pipes through which pluvial water and leachate collected in gutters will be taken away.
The Chisinau City Hall said that 57 support poles of the planned 80 have been set up. Wells that are 6-17 meters in depth were built with concrete and the access road of building site No. 2 was made. More works will yet follow.
The project was initiated in November 2020, being financed by the Chisinau City Hall (15% of the cost of work) in cooperation with the National Ecological Fund (85% of investments). The total cost of works is about 30 million lei. A sum of 6.15 million lei was spent at the first stage and about 24 million lei was allocated for the second stage.
In October, the cleanup company “Autosalubritate” will launch an international tender contest to modernize the Țânțăreni landfill. The municipality over the last three years has invested more than 100 million lei in the waste damp and is to invest about 142 million lei more.
