The non-adoption of the Chisinau budget in the second reading may delay the works to rehabilitate the six streets included in the EBRD project, the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu said in the March 12 meeting of the Municipal Council.
On March 12, the councilors sent the bill concerning the approval of the financing contract between the European Investment Bank and the Chisinau Municipal Council back for reexamination.
Adrian Boldurescu said that if the draft municipal budget is not approved during four weeks, the implementation of the EBRD program will be delayed. “Of the project’s cost of €22 million, we have only €10 million approved. The second part of the lending contract is to be approved, but the contract was sent back for reexamination. In order to start works on the roadway, we need the municipal budget to be adopted,” stated Adrian Boldurescu.
Six streets are to be repaired within the street infrastructure modernization project in two stages. These are: Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, Constantin Negruzzi, Vasile Alecsandri, 31 august 1989, Tighina, and Alexandru cel Bun. Besides the repair of the roadway, the piping system will be modernized and street lighting will be renovated.
The European Investment Bank in 2012 provided the Chisinau municipality with a loan of €10, while the rest of the money needed to implement the project was allocated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
