The small wooden houses put up by the municipality in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau for the Christmas Fair will not be taken away for now. Mayor Ion Ceban announced that the Fair was visited by about half a million people and the cabins will remain in the central square for staging thematic fairs practically each month, IPN reports.

In the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions, Ion Ceban said the Christmas Fair was a large-scale event. “We were informed that the number of visitors totaled about half a million people. The residents of Chisinau, citizens from all over the country and those who came home from abroad went to the center of the capital city to spend time nicely during the holidays. As I said yesterday, on the Day of Culture we wish to have peace so that we could hold such events, of even a larger scale, for all the people,” stated the mayor.

He noted that thematic fairs will be staged almost each month so that the heart of Chisinau is visited. “We intend to organize fairs and festivals on Saint Valentine’s Day, Dragobete, Martsishor, Easter; fairs of national producers, of farmers, pie and apple festivals, fairs of what we have best,” stated Ion Ceban.

On Monday, the fir trees and decorative elements set up for Christmas and New Year started to be dismantled. Only a part of the decorative lights will remain.
