The Forest Research and Management Institute reported a continuous rise in the wooded areas in Moldova in a meeting of the Surveillance Committee of the projects “Moldova Soil Conservation”, “Moldova Community Forestry Development” and “Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness”, IPN reports.
In the meeting, the Institute’s director Dumitru Galupa spoke about the results achieved within the three projects during the first ten months of 2016, saying the wooded areas expanded by 5% compared with the corresponding period last year.
Galupa also said there are yet many sectors that are in need of improvement, including those affected by fire, illegal felling and floods. The Forest Research and Management Institute and the forest entities taking part in the project monitor the situation and periodically intervene to remedy it.
