The women pregnant with three and more children at one time will have longer prenatal leave than at present. A bill to this effect, put forward by the Liberal Democratic Party, was passed by Parliament in the first reading, IPN reports.

Currently, these women are entitled to prenatal leave of 70 calendar days. MP Petru Stirbate, who drafted the bill, proposed that the leave should be 112 days and allowance should be paid for the whole period.

After fertility treatment started to be applied, the percentage of pregnancies that resulted in triplets or more children increased. Two cases of multiple births were recorded in Moldova in 2010, while in 2011 – five cases.

Another bill proposed by Petru Stirbate, which was also adopted in the first reading, suggests paying a monthly allowance for hiring a babysitter, to the value of two official minimum pays, in case of multiple births. The allowance should be paid during one year and a half of the birth giving. The minimum salary is now 1,100 lei. Thus, the allowance will be 2,200 lei.
