Women remain a minority in the business community even if they represent more than half of Moldova’s population. The situation is influenced by the limited access to starting capital and the family responsibilities that limit the women’s availability to develop larger companies, shows a report on the assessment of the “Women in Business” Program, which was presented in an event centering on the challenges faced by Moldovan female entrepreneurs, IPN reports.
The economic empowerment of women is supported and promoted by the state through entrepreneurial support programs. The “Women in Business” Program was implemented in 2016 – 2022. Over 1,200 women received entrepreneurial training and were helped to draw up investment projects, while 762 investment projects to the total value of 113.95 million were financed, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization has said.
The Ministry and the Organization for Entrepreneurial Development worked out a new program to support female entrepreneurs. Both newly created enterprises and developing companies will receive financial support. The goal is to increase the number of female entrepreneurs and to ensure economic growth, secretary of state of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization Veronica Arpintin stated in the event.
“The economic benefits of the support for the economic empowerment of women in Moldova are valuable and only the concerted effort of all the relevant partners – national institutions, business associations, the private sector, development partners, the academic community – can generate major results and improve the status of women in the family and in the community,” said Dominika Stojanoska, UN Women Country Representative in Moldova.
