The average salary of women in Moldova last year was by 15.6% lower than that of men. The difference between the average salaries is of over 2,000 lei. The average gross monthly salary of women was 11,237 lei, of men – 13,309 lei. The data were presented by the National Bureau of Statistics on the occasion of the International Equal Pay Day, which is marked annually on September 18, IPN reports.
Men earn more than women in most economic activities. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the areas where the largest differences are witnessed are: information and communications technology, where a man’s salary is by 38% higher than a woman’s; finance and insurance – by 34.6%, health and social assistance – by 25.6%.
On the other hand, women get higher salaries in administrative and support services - by 7.5% larger compared to men’s salaries, and in the extractive industry - by 3.1% higher.
The hierarchical position at work and the level of qualification of employees influence the gender pay gaps, explained the National Bureau of Statics.
It also noted that women predominate among employees in most districts, the highest figures being in Fălești, Nisporeni, Sângerei and Cantemir.
