A 55-year-old woman from the Transnistrian region, who was diagnosed with COVID-19, died. The presence of the novel coronavirus was confirmed posthumously, the woman being hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia. The de facto Transnistrian ministry of the interior also informed about two more cases of death at the infectious diseases hospital in Slobozia. One of the patients wasn’t infected with COVID-19, while the test results in the case of the second patient are not yet ready, IPN reports.

The local authorities said the woman was from Tiraspol. She was admitted to the infectious diseases hospital on March 29. Earlier, she received treatment for bilateral pneumonia at the National Clinical Hospital in Chisinau, staying in a room together with a man who was also diagnosed with COVID-19. The doctors of the hospital in Slobozia assessed the woman’s state as critical and connected her to mechanical ventilation. However, in about an hour she died.

The woman suffered from diabetes and heart disease and the bilateral pneumonia was a complication of the infection with the novel coronavirus.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Cristina Stratulat said there is yet no official information about this case.

The Transnistrian authorities reported seven new cases of COVID-19, the number of infections there rising to 24.
