A woman aged 21 who was involved in a hit-and-run road accident was given a suspended sentence. She mortally struck a woman in Fălești by her car last September on the Chisinau-Balti-Criva roadway. The police determined that the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol without having a driver’s license and was even speeding, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the inebriated female driver was heading for Chisinau when she hit the 50-year-old inhabitant of a village of Fălești district who was walking by the roadside in the same direction.
The female driver was found guilty of breaking the road traffic rules and of causing the death of a person out of carelessness in a hit-and-run accident.
The Fălești branch of the Balti Court gave a five-year suspended sentence to the woman. The prosecution intends to challenge the sentence in the Balti Appeals Court as too mild.
